Wild West is an educational math game to help you practice factoring random 2 to 4 digit numbers.
Number of Players: 2
Object: Score the most points by collecting the most prime numbers.
Setup: You'll need a deck of cards, and a pencil & paper for keeping score. Separate the face cards and the 2 jokers from the rest of the pack. Shuffle both and place them face down next to each other on the table. Assign someone to keep score.
Play Overview: Players take turns factoring numbers and scoring points for primes until the all the cards are exhausted. Choose a player to go first. Play continues to the right (counter-clockwise). The player with the most points, wins.
Turn: Turn over the top face card. This card tells you how many "digits" to draw from the number pile.
Jack or Joker : 2 digits
Queen : 3 digits
King : 4 digits
Draw the corresponding number of digit cards and lay them face up in front of you, left to right.
Ace = 1
Ten = 0
Factor your number. For each unique prime factor, score 1 point. Write down the primes you accumulate. Do not count primes already found by you or other players.
Take note of the suites. For every digit that matches the suite of the face card, multiply your turn's points.
1 match = x2 points
2 match = x3 points
3 match = x4 points
4 match = x5 points
Jokers have no suite, and therefore have no multiplying property.
Normally, you cannot claim points for primes that have been previously found. If ALL of the suites of your digits match the face card, you may "steal" those primes from other players, who must scratch them off their prime list. Add those primes to your prime list and count them among your points for your turn. If it was your own prime that was previously found, you get to count it among your points for this turn.
Tally your points for your turn and play continues to the right.
Winning: The player with the most points wins! If there is a tie, the player with the largest prime number wins the tie.
Tips: It's good to have a prime number list for reference. You may use FactorZ to check the prime factors of your number.
More Players: Want to play with more than 2 people? Add an additional deck of cards for every 2 players who want to join. It has to be an even number of players for everyone to get an equal number of turns.
Note: It is possible to play with exactly 7 players per pack. In this case, each player would get 2 turns.
